The Washington County Public Works Committee approved a no-parking restriction on segments of County Highway W near State Highway 33 following a recommendation from the county Traffic Safety Commission.
Rob, representing the Traffic Safety Commission, told the committee the commission studied the recently constructed stretch just south of Highway 33 and reviewed public comment, including input from the local volunteer fire chief and a nearby property owner. The commission recommended restricting parking on the west and south sides of the roadway and allowing parking on the east side of the street through the stretch identified as areas 1 and 2 on the map in the packet; area 3 was recommended to remain open for parking.
Staff said the restriction is intended to improve sight lines and reduce conflicts at two driveways and the corner where Highway 33 turns, and that a series of photographs and diagrams are included in the packet. If the public works committee approves the change, the ordinance will be scheduled for a full county board review and final action.
Committee members clarified that the Traffic Safety Commission’s recommendation was unanimous and that the public works motion should be for approval. The chair called for the vote; members voted in favor, with the chair noting there were no nays and saying, “Motion carries.”
The committee’s approval sends the recommended parking restrictions to the full Washington County Board for formal adoption and posting.
