Gage County approves RFP to hire consultant for multi‑custody jail feasibility study

The Gage County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to issue a request for proposals (RFP) seeking consultants to support planning for a proposed multi-custody county jail.
The RFP, due April 16, 2025 at 9:15 a.m., requests services to refine size and program needs based on the county’s needs assessment, evaluate potential sites and produce a cost analysis to help the county determine whether building, operating and owning a new jail is feasible.
Board members described the RFP as an important next step following earlier needs-assessment work. The item drew brief remarks from members of the jail committee and from the board chair, who said the RFP is intended to be nonbinding and to help narrow design and location options before the county makes any capital commitments.
Supervisor Lytle called the RFP a way to “narrow it down” to what type of facility the county needs and what costs and locations will look like; other supervisors said deliberate planning was necessary to avoid unexpected expenses. The board approved the RFP unanimously.
If proposals meet the county’s requirements, a jail committee and staff will evaluate respondents and bring a recommendation back to the board for a subsequent decision about contracting and project scope.
The board did not approve a specific construction contract or site at this meeting; the RFP is for consultant selection and feasibility planning only.
