Gage County board approves 2025 committee appointments and standing rules

The Gage County Board of Supervisors approved the 2025 committee and board appointments and adopted a set of standing rules at its Feb. 5 meeting.
The actions set who will represent the board on committees and outside agencies for 2025 and clarify internal procedures for how the board will operate.
Clerk’s office staff presented the committee appointment list; supervisors noted only a few changes from the prior year and that jail-inspection assignments were updated. The board discussed committee meeting procedures: instead of separate committee meetings that previously limited who could attend because of Open Meetings Act quorum concerns, supervisors said they will review committee items together so all supervisors can participate in committee discussions. The standing rules contain procedural clarifications, including a rule that “no motion shall be debated unless put and be seconded,” and a disciplinary provision that violations may lead to reprimand by vote of five board members; supervisors discussed tightening language and recommended removing two lines near rule 22 that read as potential redundancy.
Supervisor Haxby moved to approve the 2025 committee and board appointments; Supervisor Claybaugh seconded. The motion passed, 7–0. On the standing rules, Supervisor Haxby moved and Supervisor Claybaugh seconded to approve the 2025 board standing rules; the board also voted 7–0 to adopt the rules.
