Gage County, Neb. — The Gage County Board of Equalization on Jan. 22, 2025, voted to recommend that elections for the board’s chair and vice chair be held during the county Board of Supervisors meeting, approved the meeting agenda and the previous meeting minutes (with several abstentions), and heard staff say a countywide property revaluation is underway.
The motion recommending that officer elections be conducted during the Board of Supervisors meeting was made by Jurgens, seconded by Dorn and carried unanimously, 5-0. The board then approved the equalization meeting agenda on a motion by Adams, seconded by Dorn; the vote was 4 in favor with Claybaugh abstaining. The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Dorn, seconded by Jurgens; the vote was 3 in favor with Claybaugh and Adams abstaining.
Patty, a county staff member who spoke during the meeting’s comment period, provided a brief update on the year’s revaluation work. Patty said the team had completed the first four northern townships and expects to complete revaluation work across the county. She said staff will perform small-town commercial appraisals and pickup work, but that full commercial revaluation in Beatrice and larger commercial properties is being reviewed separately. Patty said staff will "look at our statistics for Commercial and Beatrice to see if we have to raise any occupancy code," naming examples such as apartments and warehouses.
Board members did not take further formal action on revaluation strategies during the equalization meeting. The board formally closed the 2024 session, completed the procedural votes described above, and adjourned the equalization meeting at 8:36 a.m.
