Gage County board approves claims including two linked to a supervisor'affiliated companies; abstentions recorded

The Gage County Board of Supervisors approved claims totaling $630,947.67 for payment on Jan. 8, 2025, including two claims the presiding supervisor said were linked to companies with which he is associated.
At the meeting the chair read claims for approval and singled out claim number 2510053 to Hard Rock Quarry LLC ($12,404.13) and claim number 25010061 to RL Team and Construction Inc. ($27,215.52), saying, "These are both companies I'm associated with." Supervisor Dorn moved to approve those claims and Supervisor Swavely seconded. The board took the vote; the chair announced the motion carried with six in favor and one abstention.
Separately, the board considered claim number 235010054 to Johnny's Welding Inc. for $501.19. That claim was moved by Supervisor Swavely and seconded by Supervisor Dorn; the board approved the claim with a vote of six in favor and one abstention (Supervisor Jurgens abstained on that vote, as recorded).
After those votes, the county clerk announced that total claims paid through Jan. 8, 2025, would total $630,947.67. The board recorded the abstentions where noted; no further action or additional inquiry about conflicts was recorded in the minutes beyond the supervisor's disclosure of association with the two businesses.
