Defendant pleads guilty; judge sentences Nicholas Cameron to 180 days

Nicholas Cameron entered a guilty plea to possession of a controlled substance (penalty group 1, less than 1 gram), a state-jail felony. Counsel waived reading of the indictment, and after the court reviewed admonishments and plea paperwork the judge accepted the plea and imposed a sentence consistent with the agreement.

The court imposed a term of 180 days in the Bexar County Jail and assessed applicable fines and credit for time already served. The judge confirmed the defendant understood that by pleading guilty he waived rights to a jury trial and to confront witnesses, and the court accepted the state's exhibits in lieu of live testimony for purposes of the plea.

At sentencing the judge addressed Cameron directly about substance-use treatment and life choices, urging him to pursue treatment and to change "people, places, and things" that contribute to drug use. Defense counsel said Cameron had been in custody for several months and asked the court to follow the plea bargain; the judge did so and entered judgment consistent with that plea.

The court advised Cameron that, as a felony conviction, he is prohibited from possessing firearms and that he had waived certain appellate rights under the plea agreement. The transcript shows no post-sentencing motions were taken up at that hearing.
