The Charleston County Council approved a clerk‑introduced, ministerial request to support a National Park Service designation naming the beach adjacent to Fort Sumter as "Fort Sumter Beach."

The clerk said the Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park had requested the naming by letter, explaining the stretch of shoreline has become more used by the public and that a formal name assists law enforcement in issuing citations for violations where a geographic name is required. The clerk characterized the council action as ministerial.

A councilmember moved and seconded the item and the chair called the ayes; the motion passed by voice vote.
