Committee advances bill creating Puget Sound non-spot shrimp pot license

The House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee voted to report substitute Senate Bill 5,076 out of committee with a due-pass recommendation on March 21.
Committee staff described the bill as establishing a Puget Sound non-spot shrimp pot fishery license and allowing conversion of shrimp trawl licenses, and permitting licensees to designate an immediate family member of their spouse as an alternate operator. Rebecca Lewis, staff to the committee, summarized the bill for members before the vote.
Representative McClintock urged colleagues to support the measure, saying, "Senator Muzzall has worked on this for the last couple of years, and we feel this is, good for protecting our environment and just transferring over, the way, this, ********* is done in the Puget Puget Sound." The committee chair also encouraged a yes vote.
The committee took a voice vote and staff announced the result as 11 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 excused or absent; by that vote the bill was reported out of committee with a due-pass recommendation.
The action now sends the bill to the next stage of the House process for consideration by the full body or scheduling for floor action.
