Orem Library Advisory Commission adopts city art-display policy

The Orem Library Advisory Commission voted to adopt the cityart collection display policy during its March meeting and approved minutes from the Jan. 21 meeting.
The policy adoption came after staff described who will oversee the city and library art collections and noted plans for participatory exhibits. "I have a motion to accept the policy as it's been presented," said the commission chair during the vote. The motion was seconded and the chair called for a voice vote; members responded "Aye" and the motion carried.
Commissioners discussed who would manage the collection. Mike, a library staff member who the presenters said "oversees the art committee," was identified as the point person for the committee; Holly was described as working in the division that reports to Jamie. Staff said Holly is the library's full-time children's lead librarian and holds a degree in art history and a certificate in art curation.
Staff also said the library has a multi-person team that collaborates on curation and that the library coordinates with the city's broader collections (for example, pieces in the new city hall). Commissioners raised a prior suggestion that the library explore participatory exhibits; staff said they are working with Meg Flinders Pei, events librarian, to develop a participatory, thematic exhibit planned for later this year.
