The vote followed questions from Councilor Whaley about services the commission provides beyond grant writing, whether CARPDC could bridge planning or economic-development needs while Prattville builds internal capacity, and whether Prattville had raised its concerns with the commission. Whaley asked whether the commission offered planning capabilities or other regional coordination Prattville might still need.
Mayor responded that Prattville has been a member for about 20 years and that the city currently pays a little more than $13,000 annually into the commission. The mayor said the city has discussed the matter with commission leadership and concluded "the dollar amount is just the math does not add up," adding that Prattville can use other planning resources in the state if needed.
Councilor Jackson and others asked whether Prattville had seen other CARPDC benefits beyond grant assistance; the mayor said grant support had been a principal benefit but there had been "numerous challenges" and limited recent progress on other services.
After discussion, the council adopted the resolution to initiate termination of membership. The resolution text cites the CARPDC bylaws as the process authority and authorizes the mayor to execute documents necessary to carry out the withdrawal.
The council did not record a roll-call tally for the final adoption in the transcript; the clerk announced that "resolution number 1 is adopted."
