Wichita County Commissioners Court reviewed recurring maintenance problems at the county jail and plans to install new interview-room camera hardware and software.
The discussion began March 20 when the jail chief reported, “We have 6 other lights out now in the jail,” and said Axon technicians “will be back out on the 30 first to do the hardware software install.”
The chief clarified the work concerns interview-room cameras rather than vehicle cameras. Commissioners were told the jail logged 12 work orders in the prior two weeks, and that some failures — such as recurring lighting problems — appear to be persistent rather than isolated.
Officials also described ongoing cosmetic and repair work. “We are in the process of going back and touching up pods, meet inmates out and do the touch ups,” the chief said, adding that staying on top of routine repairs “really makes a difference.” The court noted the facility is well maintained and said the work should serve taxpayers for years.
The court did not take formal votes on maintenance at the meeting and moved on after the update. Commissioners asked to be kept informed about the Axon installation and follow-up work orders.
