South Fulton planning commission elects Giovanni Smith Vickers as chair, keeps Devaughn as vice chair; staff announces comprehensive-plan meetings

At the March 20 meeting the South Fulton Planning Commission elected Commissioner Giovanni Smith Vickers as chair and Commissioner Paulette Devaughn as vice chair.
Outgoing Chair Brianna McGhehan said she was honored to have served and nominated Smith Vickers; Smith Vickers accepted the nomination. Commissioners voted by roll call; the chair congratulated the new leadership after the vote.
The commission also heard a departmental update on the city’s comprehensive plan revision. Reginald McClendon, managing director of community development, and Matthew Williams, zoning staff, outlined Phase 2 public workshops where the public can review draft policies and offer input. Williams said Phase 1 visioning is complete and Phase 2 will focus on drafting goals, objectives and implementing actions. Staff announced three open workshops (open to the entire city) scheduled for:
- Monday, March 31, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., Welcome All Park - Sunday/Tuesday April 6, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., Elegant Occasions Event Center (District 4) - Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., Bridal Park (District 5)
Commissioners encouraged staff to provide clearer case documentation in future packets and discussed possible updates to deferral fee policy and deferral limits for applicants. Staff said new deferral rules will apply to cases filed after the rule change and that the department will consider recommendations from the commission on fee updates.
The commission adjourned following department updates.
