Turnstone Group asks South Fulton planning commission to defer extended-stay hotel case

The South Fulton Planning Commission on March 20 deferred a rezoning, special-use and concurrent variance request from the Turnstone Group for an extended-stay hotel at 7785 Ella Lane.

The application, filed as Z24-031 (rezoning), U24-018 (special use) and CV24-012 (concurrent variance), asked to rezone the property from MIX (Mixed Use District) and C2 (General Commercial) and to reduce a required landscape strip from 4 feet to 3.6 feet. The applicant told the commission they would like to revise the site plan and re-advertise the notice because a sign on the property listed the prior meeting date.

“...we would request deferral to your next meeting for 2 reasons. Number 1, we would like to make some modifications to the concept plan ... Number 2 ... the sign on the property continued to say the nineteenth,” said Steven Jones, representing the applicant. He said the applicant would return next month after updating the plans and public notice.

Commissioners voted to accept the deferral. Staff called the roll; Commissioners Giovanni Smith Vickers, Keith Perry, Trone Jefferson, Paulette Devaughn and Yvonne Boone recorded “aye.” The chair announced the motion carried and the case will return at the commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting.

The commission packet showed the case was advertised in the South Fulton Neighbor and that two cards in support had been submitted by representatives of the applicant. No members of the public had signed up to speak in opposition at the hearing that night.

The deferral means the commission will not make a recommendation to city council at this time; the applicant will update the site plan and re-notify the public prior to the next hearing.
