The Chicopee City Council voted to amend Chapter 7 of the municipal ordinances Tuesday to equalize salary levels for two positions in the mayor’s office.
Councilor Pampers, chair of the ordinance committee, reported that the committee voted unanimously earlier in the evening to approve the amendment. The ordinance sets both the special projects manager and the community and constituent liaison at $52,450.56, grade 5, effective Feb. 18, 2025. The committee report said the change preserves overall budget neutrality by slightly adjusting the special projects manager grade.
Mayor (acting) said the change reflects added responsibilities assigned to the community and constituent liaison and maintains pay parity between the two roles. The mayor said the change will not increase total costs and is handled within existing budget lines.
Councilor Wagner made the motion for second and final reading and enrollment; the full council approved the ordinance on roll call, 13‑0.
The ordinance amendment will be enrolled and posted according to municipal procedure. The mayor said the positions will be filled as explained in his presentation: Monica Torres will continue as community and constituent liaison with added duties, and the mayor’s department has hired a communications/special projects director from Chicopee TV.
