City staff preview April exhibitions, conservation work and new installations for Las Vegas public art program

Cultural Affairs staff provided a monthly report outlining upcoming exhibitions and workshops, conservation efforts for damaged murals, the selection process for new projects and progress on several installations including a seed sculpture relocation to Boulder Plaza.
Cultural Affairs staff updated the Arts Commission on ongoing projects, upcoming exhibitions and conservation work across the public art collection.
Staff highlighted a collaborative workshop with UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law’s Economic Justice and Small Business Clinic on April 3 and an artist reception for Bailey Anderson’s The Neon Lake set for April 24; Anderson’s installation will be on view April 21–September 19 along the First Street Art Trail. The Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship and Nevada Heritage Fellowship applications are open through May 1; staff promoted three free professional-development webinars in April and May.
On conservation, Mary Sabo reported graffiti damaged murals at Doug Selby Park (completed in 2021). Staff are coordinating with artist Eric Pizzola to repaint and reapply protective coating because removal attempts would have harmed the underlying art. Staff also described an inventory submission for FY25 and ongoing maintenance and conservation scheduling.
Project updates included installation-ready mural work for Civic Center Plaza by Jake Depio; selection of semifinalists for the Mirabelli Community Center mural with public presentations planned April 16; and progress on a seed sculpture by CR2 (formerly Casino Center Pocket Park project), with structural plans submitted to Public Works for permitting and Boulder Plaza identified as the proposed new site.
Staff asked commissioners to help with outreach and event planning for dedications and community engagement around completed projects.
