The City of Lynn Food Policy Council took several formal votes during its March (2025) meeting, approving travel funds for a national advocacy conference, designating a council representative for a statewide summit, and signing on to a regional advocacy push for the Healthy Incentives Program (HIP). The council also tabled a separate motion to allocate its remaining internal funds while members gather more detail.
The council voted to release up to $2,000 from its Food Policy Council fund to support attendance at the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference, with the chair indicating the amount would cover most registration and travel and the attendee would cover any remaining balance personally if needed.
Council members approved a motion naming Christine (Catholic Charities) to represent the council at the Mass Food System Collaborative’s Food Policy Summit on April 30 at Brigham Hill Community Barn in North Grafton.
Separately, the council voted to sign on to the Mass Food System Collaborative’s advocacy in support of increased HIP funding for Massachusetts. Members agreed to immediately sign the collaborative’s position paper and develop a Lynn-specific resolution to refine local language at a later meeting.
The council also discussed proposed uses for roughly $11,000 held in the council’s account (including suggested allocations for administration, branding, and technology) but voted to table any spending decisions to allow time for member organizations to review details and confirm fiscal sponsorship and logistical arrangements.
All motions were approved by roll call. The council did not adopt any new spending allocations before tabling the budget discussion.
