County to apply for MDOT bridge funding for Coloma and Log Cabin roads; Coloma bridge will remain closed for weeks

Berrien County officials told the board on March 20 they will submit applications to the Michigan Department of Transportation's Local Bridge Program for two projects: Coloma Road and Log Cabin Road. The administration said these applications will appear as resolutions (ending in 175 and 176) at a future full board meeting.
County road staff reported the Coloma Road bridge will remain closed for another two to three weeks. The administration also reported it will submit the county's annual road-mileage reimbursement report to the state via resolution 177; the report lists 484.88 miles of county primary roads and 993.89 miles of local county roads for a total of 1,478.77 miles.
The county administrator asked that commissioners interested in site visits contact Community Development; staff indicated the county is coordinating with local municipalities on projects such as river dredging in St. Joseph and that ongoing construction has closed westbound exits along I-94 in places.
