District eyes using auditorium contingency to finish baseball bleachers; guard booth and life-skills room updates reported

Superintendent Dr. Posse updated the board on ongoing facilities projects, recommending reallocating contingency funds from the high-school auditorium project to complete the baseball field by purchasing bleachers and reporting progress on the life-skills room and guard booth redesign.

Posse said the architect indicated contingency funds initially budgeted for the auditorium appear unnecessary and could be redeployed. "Given other financial demands, these groups are not currently in a position to make this donation. Therefore, I wanted to recommend that we use the available contingency funds from the auditorium project to purchase bleachers," Posse said. The district has a prepared bleacher pad with capacity for about 200 seats and the architect is preparing drawings and cost estimates.

On the life-skills room at the high school, Posse told the board the room is "substantially complete" but the district requested cabinet replacements; new cabinets were selected and installation was expected in approximately six weeks, with punch-list items communicated to the contractor.

The guard booth project was modified after a Nassau County Homeland Security audit, Posse said. Liftgates were added and a vehicle turnaround was requested to allow vehicles denied entry to exit without entering campus. The revised plan moves the liftgates forward, creates a turnaround before the gate, and removes one parking space; the architect will provide a cost estimate for board review.

Ending: The administration will return with architect cost estimates for the bleachers and guard-booth modifications and confirm the life-skills cabinet installation timeline once the contractor provides scheduling details.
