The MSD Martinsville Schools Board recognized a John R. Wooden Middle School social studies teacher who was nominated for the Gilder Lehrman National History Teacher of the Year and applauded his more than 20 years of service to the district.
Martinsville High School principal Jeff Bell introduced DECA adviser Mr. Cragan and DECA chapter president Rajvi (Raju) Patel. Cragan described a DECA project that turned slushie sales at athletic events into a “Gold Standard” fundraising and business‑learning project; Patel explained that the chapter qualified for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) and asked the community to support fundraising events such as a dine‑to‑donate at Tres Caminos on April 1.
The board also congratulated the district transportation department (Transportation Co‑directors Bridal Beaton and Lisa Callahan and their staff) for achieving 100% pass rates on the 2025 state bus inspections. Trustees recognized Smith Fine Arts Academy staff and students for a successful production of Annie at Martinsville High School.
Administrative announcements included: open enrollment for the 2025–26 school year (district website), kindergarten orientation and registration contact information (phone: (765) 342‑6641), a Popsicles for Pre‑K enrollment fair scheduled for April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Central Education Center for children who will be 4 by Aug. 1, 2025, the state math bowl April 15 at Bell Intermediate Academy, and class of 2025 graduation on May 23. Superintendent Bolin also noted the high school will host the state chess tournament this weekend.
