Vancouver SD to consider careers textbook and three mascot finalists for Ruth Bader Ginsburg Elementary

District staff told the Committee of the Whole on March 18 that teaching-and-learning staff are seeking board approval of one instructional material for a careers and education class and that Ruth Bader Ginsburg Elementary School presented three mascot finalists.
"There was just one that's for a careers and education class. So I don't think it has any challenging content," Dr. Snell said when introducing the instructional-materials item. On the mascot, Dr. Snell said the principal led the selection process and presented three ranked choices: the monarch butterfly, the quetzal and the colibri. "Their first choice, I believe, is the Colibri," Dr. Snell said. When asked whether the choice was definite, staff confirmed the list was rank ordered and the principal's top choice was the colibri.
Both items were presented for committee review and are scheduled for board consideration at the April 8 regular meeting; no formal votes were taken on March 18.
