Buildings & Grounds committee updates: Indian Trail chiller replacement, Lincoln driveway and other repairs deferred to summer if needed

The district’s Buildings & Grounds committee updated trustees on ongoing and proposed facility work, noting projects that could proceed over spring break or be deferred to summer because of weather or equipment timing.

Committee member Mister Ruffalo said the planned HVAC/chiller replacement for Indian Trail was pushed to April 18 (a day without classes) but could be delayed further to summer if equipment or weather prevents work during spring break. Preparatory work at Wesley and Lincoln is scheduled for spring break to minimize classroom disruption.

Ruffalo briefed trustees on several other items discussed by the committee: a longer-term traffic flow and driveway project at Lincoln (no funding committed), boiler bypass valve repairs at Lincoln and possibly other schools, elevator cost estimates at Indian Trail, replacement of 350 combination padlocks at Indian Trail with permanent locks, and bollards proposed at a south entrance near Army Trail/Lincoln Avenue to protect pedestrians. He also said district facilities staff have closed out more than 680 work orders since the last meeting.

Trustees noted that existing capital projects are constrained by current finances and identified Wesley and Army Trail as priority sites for future work, with Old Mill School currently leased to the Regional Office of Education and under discussion for long-term use.

Why it matters: deferred or phased capital work can avoid classroom disruption but may require shifting timelines and budgets; trustees said they will prioritize projects within fiscal constraints.
