Board hears Tiger Legacy Project concepts, student advisory on new building features

The Twinsburg board received a facilities update that included early concepts for a Bissell Nature Park and a weatherproof fitness court at Wilcox as part of the Tiger Legacy Project, and a student advisory presentation about desired features in a future Dodge replacement building.

Facilities director Mr. Strickland described a Bissell Nature Park concept that would include a learning pavilion, amphitheater, walking paths, natural meadows and a cross‑country trail; the district plans to partner with area organizations for grant funding and to transplant native plant species from the proposed new school site. He also described an NFC (National Fitness Campaign) fitness court idea for Wilcox with weatherproof surfacing, parkour equipment, integration with fitness apps and opportunities for corporate sponsorships.

Separately, a principal-scribe student advisory group from Dodge presented unfiltered student recommendations for a new building: larger, brighter classrooms with soundproofing; improved playground surfacing instead of mulch; consistent basketball hoops; expanded field space; operable windows with screens and ceiling fans; quieter heating and cooling systems; larger lockers and more food choices in lunch. Students also suggested a school garden and clearer hallway directions for newcomers.

Strickland said project boards are on display in the lobby and that Tiger Legacy Project details are on the district website; he noted roofing and paving costs will pressure the facilities budget this summer. Board members expressed support for the concepts and noted potential grant and community partnerships.
