RBC Middle School staff highlight student clubs and programs boosting engagement

RBC Chamberlain Middle School staff told the Twinsburg board that a broad mix of extracurricular and in-school groups are helping students connect to school and build skills.
Assistant principal and presenters listed student groups that meet before, during and after school: a reading-and-writing festival, STEM club, student government (28 members), the Crayola crew (a morning art/wellness group run by a counselor who is an art therapist), a celebration club that organizes events, a girls’ group, Power of the Pen (competitive writing), a spelling-bee club, performing-arts ensembles, and athletics. Staff said these groups improve attendance and engagement for students who may not connect through core academic classes.
Dean of students and club leaders described Fit Club (morning workouts) and Tiger Men on a Mission (a leadership group of about 15 boys). Mr. Sanders said Fit Club sets a positive tone for the day and creates informal mentorship and conversation time; three student leaders summarized the program and recited the “seven daily habits of highly effective people” they practice in the group.
The school reported increased participation in performing arts and athletics and said some activities require schedule adjustments because of growth. The board received the presentation during the culture-and-climate update; presenters characterized the programs as part of the district’s MTSS and school engagement work.
