Emmaus Borough's Public Works committee reported March 17 that paving work planned for South Sixth Street will be postponed until 2026 to give residents more time to complete curbs and sidewalks and to allow the borough to carry budgeted funds into next year.
Committee chair Mr. Anders said residents asked for more time than the ordinance's current 30‑day notice allows. The committee voted to propose an amendment to the ordinance to increase the notice period; council discussion indicated a first reading of that amendment is expected in April. The committee also voted to carry the allocated paving funds forward into the 2026 budget so the project can proceed with resident accommodations.
Public Works staff (Shane) confirmed the current ordinance requires 30 days' notice and that 30 days was insufficient for many property owners to fund curb and sidewalk work. Mr. Anders moved the committee recommendation and Mr. Ladenburg seconded; the motion carried (7–0) at committee and was reported to council for action as a committee recommendation.
