Francis Howell board welcomes incoming superintendent Dr. Mike Dominguez

The Francis Howell R-III Board of Education on March 20 introduced Dr. Mike Dominguez as its incoming superintendent; he will begin in the role July 1.
Board president President Bertrand told the meeting the board selected Dominguez after a nationwide search and praised his “more than 30 years in education, 2 previous superintendent roles, and a track record for promoting academic excellence for all students.” The board thanked the community for input used in the search.
Dr. Mike Dominguez thanked the board and community and described a long career in education. “If education is a ladder, I’ve been on most rungs. I’ve been a teacher. I’ve been a coach. I’ve been assistant principal, principal, deputy superintendent, and superintendent of multiple districts in multiple states,” he said. He said he was “drawn to Francis Howell” by the district’s five-year strategic plan and values and emphasized relationships, prudent spending and safety.
Dominguez said culture matters and that small interactions build it: “Culture is built 20 seconds at a time. Every time we meet, every time we introduce ourselves, we need to put our best foot forward.” He also told the crowd the district must “spend time and money wisely” and that the board and community value fiduciary responsibility.
The board and district administrators said they will facilitate a transition period leading up to July 1 and that additional opportunities to meet Dominguez will be scheduled.
The board recognized March as School Board Recognition Month, and members used the meeting to express appreciation for outgoing work and to welcome the incoming superintendent.
