At the March 20 Sunbury City Events and Commemoration Committee meeting, members discussed changing the standing meeting time from 3:30 p.m. to later in the day to better fit event coordinators’ schedules.
Committee members and staff outlined options including holding meetings at 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m., keeping the monthly cadence on the third Thursday, or moving to Tuesdays (second and fourth) once the Charter Review Commission completes its work. No formal motion to change the schedule was made; members agreed to keep April meetings at 3:30 p.m. and to revisit a possible May or June change after staff consultation.
Committee members expressed two practical concerns: evening times may be late for those who work full days and for members with childcare responsibilities, and seasonal sports schedules (baseball/softball) could affect attendance. Staff said event coordinators generally preferred Tuesdays or Thursdays later in the day; the committee asked members to consult personal schedules and for staff to check with event organizers. A final decision was left to staff and future committee discussion.
