Tomball ISD highlights fine arts state qualifiers and announces April festival

TOMBALL, Texas — Tomball ISD recognized dozens of students on Monday for state-level fine arts honors and announced a district fine arts festival for April.

Paulette Tomlinson, the district’s director of fine arts, told the Board of Trustees that March is Fine Arts Month and that Tomball students had recent state-level successes. Tomlinson listed six Texas Music Educators Association All-State students from Tomball ISD and said the district had multiple Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE/TAEA BASE) state finalists who will compete April 26. Tomlinson also recognized a student sculptor awarded a gold medal by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo school art program; she said the piece is currently on display at the rodeo’s Energy Center.

Tomlinson reviewed district data showing academic correlations with fine arts participation: students with three or more fine arts credits in the current senior class had a cumulative GPA of 95.35, while students with two or fewer fine arts credits had a 91.05 GPA. Tomlinson cited broader sector statistics on creative‑economy jobs and encouraged community attendance at the district’s Fine Arts Festival, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 26 at Tomball Memorial High School.

Trustees and staff praised instructors and families for supporting students’ arts participation. Tomlinson said the district has expanded high‑school offerings to include mariachi and guitar programs and highlighted Tomball Memorial’s UIL marching band qualifying for state.

Tomlinson closed by inviting the public to the April 26 festival and offering to share the fine arts presentation materials with board members and the public.
