Tomball ISD honors state qualifiers in swimming, football and other athletics

Tomball ISD trustees recognized student-athletes from Tomball High, Tomball Memorial and other campuses for state qualifications, school records and academic awards during a March 17 workshop.
TOMBALL, Texas — Tomball ISD trustees on Monday recognized student-athletes from multiple campuses who qualified for state competition, set school records and earned academic honors.
The district opened the recognitions with remarks from Superintendent Dr. Martha Salazar Zamora and Athletic Director Kevin Flanagan, who introduced coaches and athletes from Tomball High School, Tomball Memorial High School and other programs. Coach Deanna Sampson highlighted senior Josh Crook and sophomore Isabella Muir from Tomball High; Sampson said Muir broke two school records in the 200- and 100-yard freestyles and placed fourth in the state in the 200 free and 15th in the 100 free. Sampson said Crook broke his own school record in the 500 freestyle and finished 17th at state. Flanagan and Sampson also noted relay records and regional call-ups for other athletes.
Coach Kaiser and Tomball Memorial staff recognized juniors Tyler Murray and Alexis Messina. Coach Kaiser said the Wildcats’ boys team set seven new school records and that Murray set a District 15-6A record in the 200 freestyle and finished 10th at the state meet in two events. Coach Kaiser said Messina, a repeat state qualifier and 2024 All-American in the 100 breaststroke, placed eighth in the 200 individual medley and earned a state medal with third place in the 100 breaststroke.
Trustees also recognized Tomball Memorial’s selection by the National Football Foundation for the National Football Foundation Academic Award. Coach Carey said Tomball Memorial had 20 players named to the Texas High School Coaches Association academic all-state team and 48 named to the academic all-district team. Coach Carey introduced seniors Trevion Green (University of the Incarnate Word), Will Lancaster (Texas State University) and Sutton Clark (Texas Wesleyan), who plan to play football at their next institutions.
The recognitions included multiple coaches who emphasized the academic commitments of student-athletes and the time demands of year-round training. Trustees and staff repeatedly linked athletic success with classroom performance and thanked coaches, families and athletic staff for their support.
Trustees offered brief congratulations to the athletes and coaches and moved on to the workshop’s other agenda items.
