Commission approves audits, annual recycling report and consultant invoice; several routine items advanced

The Loudon County Commission approved several routine administrative actions and voted to pay consultant invoices during the meeting following the landfill workshop.
The commission voted to contract with Advanced CPA for the county 2025 audit at a cost of $10,100. The motion was moved and seconded and the item passed by roll call.
Commissioners also approved the county’s 2024 Annual Progress Report on recycling. The staff summary showed public recycling at 2,157.4 tons and private recycling tallies (including large industrial reporters) that raised the county’s preliminary diversion rate to 52.8 percent for 2024; TDEC will review and issue a final figure later this year.
The county approved payment of an invoice (Invoice No. 7) for consultant services through January for $26,900 covering 88 hours of work; the motion passed after a roll-call vote.
Other noncontroversial items advanced without extended debate: corrections to the minutes for Dec. 19 and Feb. 20 were moved, seconded and approved with a requested typo correction; a property owner’s request to clear a fence line adjacent to the landfill was discussed and county staff indicated it could proceed with appropriate coordination; and new operating contacts at the landfill (including Lindsey Turtle as general manager and a replacement site manager) were noted in the packet and will be introduced at a future meeting.
Why it matters: these votes complete routine fiscal and reporting obligations that allow the county to proceed with audits, continue oversight of landfill operations, and keep recycling reporting current. The invoice payment covers consultant work related in part to the landfill review.
