Treasurer/Collector Mr. Lawson told the Public Service Committee on March 20 that Kane County will mail tax bills around May 1 and expects the mailings to cover about 195,000 taxpayer parcels and roughly $1.5 billion in collections.
“My rewritten report was filed maybe 6, 8 days ago. No major changes there,” Lawson said. He emphasized the sensitivity of the billing process: a single digit error can produce thousands of incorrect bills and staff take special care to avoid mistakes.
Lawson praised assessment and treasurer staff by name for handling extensions and taxpayer inquiries, and described customer‑service measures including bilingual staff. He said bilingual employees in the office help repeatedly and “put everybody at ease” when taxpayers need assistance with property‑tax law terms. Lawson also explained the office helps older taxpayers understand exemptions and described the difference between a senior freeze and a senior deferral, advising that both can be used in sequence when appropriate.
He said the office is considering sending bills by email in future years but not for the coming mailing, and invited suggestions for process improvements. Lawson thanked seasonal employees and other county staff who support the workload.
Committee members had no substantive questions. Lawson’s report was filed with the committee and is on record.
