Council plans fuller Fire & EMS briefing after subcommittee review; city manager corrects reported figure

City Manager Sheridan said the consultant and subcommittee have worked through scenarios and that the next subcommittee meeting will include the fire chief, two assistant chiefs and the EMS director to develop concrete options. Sheridan told council he expects to present recommended next steps to the full council in April after the subcommittee meetings.
Sheridan also corrected an erroneous figure posted by an external outlet: short-term improvements for Fire and EMS were $400,000, not $400,000,000 as one item had reported. He asked communications staff to correct the city website and confirmed the Fire Department stands ready to help residents with smoke-detector and carbon-monoxide checks.
Sheridan provided operational updates tied to stormwater and watershed studies: a Brandywine Creek study (area between College Street and the bridal school) will go out as an RFP later in the week, and the Tinkers Creek watershed study has two finalist consultants. Sheridan said he is awaiting an update from the county in March on a pump station in Brunswick. Councilors expressed interest in receiving a department briefing to supplement the study findings; Councilor Sutton asked that the chief or assistants appear before the full council after the subcommittee completes its drafting work.
No formal vote was taken; council directed staff to proceed with the subcommittee schedule and to bring a full-council briefing in April.
