West Chester Township trustees on Feb. 25 approved a resolution initiating proposed text amendments to the township comprehensive land use plan, zoning resolution and property maintenance code and authorized transmission to the zoning commission for consideration.
Township staff said the step is a required statutory procedural action allowing the zoning commission to review proposed changes. Trustees and staff previously discussed draft language at a work session; staff asked trustees to submit any additional changes to Katie (staff) by the end of the week so revisions can be incorporated before the zoning commission review. Staff also noted a revised version of the documents is available on the township website.
Trustees asked whether the zoning commission can make changes; staff said the zoning commission makes recommendations to the board and that the board retains authority to accept or modify the commission's recommendation.
Why it matters: Initiating text amendments starts the formal process for code changes that could affect zoning rules, development approvals and property maintenance standards in the township.
Next steps: Staff will forward the draft to the zoning commission, which will consider and recommend changes; the board will then review the commission's recommendation before any final action.
