Leon County and Tallahassee officials accept land-use and mobility goals; county adds weeks for policy review

Leon County and Tallahassee elected officials on Tuesday accepted staff’s draft goals and objectives for the land‑use and mobility elements of the Tallahassee‑Leon County Comprehensive Plan and agreed on next steps for public review. The Leon County Commission later voted to add three to four weeks to the interval between the release of policy language and the joint transmittal hearing; the Tallahassee City Commission voted against matching that schedule change.

The draft work was presented by planning staff member Artie, who told the joint meeting the update focuses on two elements of the comprehensive plan — land use and mobility — because those areas “have a profound impact on each other” and because the land‑use element is the largest of the plan’s 12 elements.

The goals staff proposed are: a healthy environment; a clear distinction between urban and rural areas; healthy neighborhoods and vibrant places; greater housing diversity; a robust economy; and a balanced, multimodal transportation network.
