After additional comment and a substitute motion, the board approved the substitute motion unanimously: $15,000 for the current fiscal year out of contingency; a $15,000 line item in the FY2026 proposed budget; and direction that County Community and Media Relations (CMR) staff work with the Henry Hill Foundation to promote the event to the public.
Clarifying details included in the discussion: the foundation received $6,000 from the county in 2024, and this year’s request was for $15,000. Commissioners acknowledged the foundation’s longtime stewardship of the event and said the board wanted to avoid placing a burden on older organizers who lack grant‑application capacity while ensuring public funds are administered transparently.
The board’s action funds the event for the current fiscal year and places a matching line item into next year’s budget; staff will work with the foundation on promotion and on transitioning future funding requests into established county grant processes if the foundation chooses to pursue TDT dollars.
