Votes at a glance: Linn County Board approves claims, library contract authorization and payroll authorizations

The Linn County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 21 approved several routine financial and administrative items by voice vote.

Claims: The board approved claims dated Jan. 17, 2025, processed in a block. Staff reported payroll deduction checks totaling $13,357.70, ACH payments of $60,296.34, an EFT wire of $25,140.33 and a Ceridian ER funds trust wire of $2,197,109.12 for a combined total of $2,295,903.49. The chair moved to approve the block; the motion carried on a voice vote.

Library contracts and payments: Darren Gage, director of policy and administration, presented the annual formula-driven allocations for the county’s 11 city libraries. The formula is driven primarily by circulation to rural residents and requires that city contracts not supplant local city budgets and continue to provide library services to rural residents. The board approved a motion authorizing the chair to sign individual library service contracts as they are returned from city library boards and councils and to release payment upon receipt of the respective contracts; the motion carried on a voice vote.

Payroll authorizations: The board approved payroll authorizations by motion and voice vote. No roll-call tallies were provided in the meeting record; the minutes record these as voice votes with the chair announcing the motions carried.

Recess and procedural items: The board recessed until 11:00 a.m. and later recessed again after votes; the public hearing on the Cummings Ford Road vacation was opened and closed by voice vote and will return for final consideration by the county engineer on Wednesday.
