The Linn County Board of Supervisors on Monday voted unanimously to proclaim February 2025 as African American History Month and urged citizens to recognize the history, culture and achievements of people of African descent.
The proclamation traced Black History Month to the organization of Negro History Week in 1926 by scholar Carter G. Woodson and said communities across the country observe the month to commemorate the vital role of African Americans in United States history. The board’s resolution reaffirmed a county commitment to “respect African American history through the month of February 2025.”
The proclamation was moved and seconded and carried without dissent.
