Board approves claims, consent agenda, temporary custodian hire and Whitworth grant amendment

Supervisor Running Marquardt said Catherine McAuley Center executive director Anne Ann Dugger had asked to amend the WIPR/Whitworth application after a federal contract for refugee services was terminated, leaving several arriving families without the previously contracted state services. "The contract was terminated...the Catherine McAuley Center has decided to continue with servicing those new Iowans and had asked for this," Supervisor Running Marquardt said.
County staff and the board noted the Whitworth funds are discretionary charitable trust funds (the board annually appropriates $80,000 from the Weaver Whitworth Trust for community grants) rather than tax dollars. The board voted to allow the amended application; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Other routine agenda items and a brief legislative update were discussed but no further board action was required. The board adjourned after concluding the listed business.
