Linn County IT requests to fill GIS specialist vacancy; supervisors agree to place item on upcoming agenda

Jason Seabrick, GIS manager for Linn County Information Technology, presented a vacancy form Feb. 17 requesting authorization to fill an open GIS technician position by reclassifying it as a GIS specialist and hiring early using remaining FY25 or FY26 budgeted funds.
Seabrick told the board the specialist position was part of the 2026 budget and that the department is seeking to fill it early using remaining funds. "Seeking, to fill a open GIS tech position with a GIS specialist," Seabrick said. He asked if supervisors had questions and noted the form had already been signed by county staff (Lisa and Sarah, as noted in the record).
A board member directed staff to place the vacancy form on Wednesday's consent agenda so the supervisors would not need to bring the item back for further review. No hiring decision was made on Feb. 17; formal authorization will occur when the item appears on the consent agenda and the board acts.
