Linn County Supervisor Ben Rogers announces resignation effective April 1

Ben Rogers, Linn County Supervisor, announced at the Feb. 17 board meeting that he will resign from the Board of Supervisors effective April 1 to accept a position with UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s Foundation.

Rogers made the announcement during the meeting’s public comment period, saying he will submit a formal resignation letter to Auditor Todd Taylor and that the board will discuss next steps at a future meeting. "I've accepted a position at UnityPoint, Health St. Luke's Foundation," Rogers said. "Today's a bittersweet announcement."

The announcement drew immediate comments from fellow supervisors. Supervisor Brandy praised Rogers’ public service, saying she and other colleagues were grateful for his work and leadership. Another supervisor thanked Rogers for his role on county initiatives including the mental health access center and winter overflow shelter, and said the county would discuss a transition plan.

Rogers recounted some accomplishments and relationships from his time on the board, including work on flood recovery, mental health and shelter initiatives, and use of American Rescue Plan Act funds. He said he will help ensure an orderly transition.

The county clerk/auditor’s office will receive Rogers’ resignation letter and the board indicated it will address the vacancy and transition timeline at a later meeting. No formal action to accept the resignation was recorded during the Feb. 17 session.

Looking ahead, the board said it will provide additional opportunities to recognize Rogers’ tenure and to discuss interim coverage and the formal process for filling the seat.
