Linn County approves re-posting design engineer position for Secondary Roads after no qualified applicants for technician posting

Garrett Reddish, assistant engineer in the Linn County Secondary Roads Department, told the Board of Supervisors the department will re-post a full-time design engineer vacancy after a prior posting for a lower-level design technician drew no qualified applicants.
"We've had this vacancy for a year, maybe a year and a half now," Reddish said, explaining the department left the position vacant while managing workloads and then determined current and projected design needs require refilling the job at the engineer classification.
Reddish said the department previously revised the posting downward to the design technician classification and did not receive qualified applicants. He told supervisors that funding for the design engineer position is available for fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
A supervisor moved, a second was recorded, and the vacancy form to post a design engineer was approved unanimously.
The department will proceed with recruitment at the design engineer classification rather than the technician level.
