Board backs conversion of 520-area motel to multifamily housing; unanimous recommendation

Engineer Bruce Moya presented the application for JScribe LLC and described a redevelopment that would refurbish existing motel buildings, add a new building and reconfigure amenities (pool, clubhouse and outdoor spaces). Moya said the change replaces transient lodging with long-term rentals and would reduce the number of transient units while adding modern residential units and on-site amenities.
Board discussion praised the redevelopment potential for a tired commercial strip, noted the site’s existing signalized access on SR 520, and raised standard concerns about demolition issues such as asbestos that would be checked during permitting. The board voted unanimously to recommend approval; both items will proceed to the County Commission for final action.
