Madhuri Adapala, the city’s GIS manager, asked the council on Feb. 25 to renew the city’s Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) software contract for a three-year term at a total cost of $126,600 — approximately $42,200 per year.
Adapala said Esri is the software platform the city uses for data collection, mapping, analysis and the web applications that populate public-facing maps on the city’s website. She told council the contract is budgeted for 2025 and staff plans to budget the annually prorated costs in the 2026 and 2027 budgets.
Council members asked whether citizen users can edit the data; staff clarified that employees use the licensed software while the city’s web-based applications allow citizens to view maps and data but not change underlying information. No formal vote was recorded at the meeting; staff presented the contract renewal for council consideration and said the expense is budgeted.
