Members of Peachtree City’s Unified Development Ordinance steering committee reported progress and next steps at the Planning Commission meeting on Feb. 24, describing an initial Feb. 10 steering meeting and laying out tasks for the next two weeks and beyond.
The steering committee said its immediate priorities are to define goals, a mission statement and objectives; begin a framework for how the UDO might be organized (the committee flagged Fayetteville’s UDO as an example); and to identify "quick wins"—smaller changes that produce early results. The committee has posted documents in a shared Microsoft Teams site and is using a task tracker to assign work.
Committee members asked city staff to perform four supporting actions: compile all Peachtree City ordinances relevant to the UDO effort, help arrange contact with Fayetteville staff who prepared that city’s UDO, establish a public web page to document progress and membership, and prepare briefings to city council to explain scope and discuss the potential need to hire a consultant. Staff members present said they have begun identifying ordinances and will help coordinate outreach, web presence and council updates.
Committee members reported a new citizen participant, Keith Larson, whose letter to the steering committee was uploaded to the shared drive and will be considered by the group. Members also noted that David Rast, Fayetteville’s community development director, used to serve in a similar position in Peachtree City; the committee discussed inviting Fayetteville staff to share their experience and lessons learned.
The steering committee intends to use the March meetings to finalize goals, mission and objectives and to continue building the overall UDO framework. Members discussed holding separate working sessions devoted specifically to the UDO if calendar demands make that helpful.
No formal vote was taken; the session functioned as a status update and direction to staff and committee members to proceed with the listed tasks. The committee expects to continue work in the coming weeks and to return with more detailed materials at future meetings.
