Peachtree City official highlights citizen programs, advisory groups and training opportunities

The official said a new, neighborhood-focused “Slice of the City” event was held in Kedron Village, where residents learned about municipal departments and services that affect their neighborhood. "This was at Kedron, and the neighbors of Kedron were invited to come in and learn about all the different departments as they relate to your unique neighborhood in the Kedron Village," the speaker said.
The remarks included enrollment figures for the city’s civic-education class PTC 101: last year’s inaugural session had 22 participants and this year’s class had 40 attendees. "The graduates of PTC 101 often go on to serve on our various boards, authorities, and commissions, or maybe even run for city council," the official added.
Officials also noted the spring start of a Citizens Police Academy, a multiweek program that the speaker described as hands-on and covering topics from cryptocurrency crime investigations to the police canine unit and drone operations. The speaker said the city had also launched a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class to teach residents how to protect families and neighborhoods during widespread emergencies.
The speaker reported the inaugural meeting of a new recreation advisory group, charged with helping city council and staff evaluate a recreation master plan, prioritize projects and identify funding. Separately, the city is recruiting for three open seats on a newly formed transportation advisory group that will advise staff and council on paths, roads and safety.
The official framed the programs as opportunities to increase citizen understanding of city services and to recruit participants for future volunteer boards and commissions. The remarks emphasized turnout and public interest but did not announce any votes, budget changes or policy actions related to the programs.
