Board adopts participant and volunteer conduct policy for Milton Parks programs

The Milton Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on March 20 voted to adopt a new participant and volunteer conduct and discipline policy designed to provide consistent procedures for handling misconduct in city-run and provider-run programs.
Parks staff presented the proposed policy as a department-wide baseline to be referenced in provider agreements and used by staff for disciplinary guidance. Thomas, a department staff member who presented the item, told the board the policy outlines minor and major offenses, examples of conduct violations, and disciplinary steps so staff and program providers have clear expectations.
Board members described the draft as detailed and useful. Scott Minette moved to approve the policy; Stephanie Butler seconded. The motion passed without opposition.
Staff said the policy will be used for city-run programs (including summer camp) and will be incorporated or referenced in agreements with outside providers so the department and providers share the same expectations for participant and volunteer conduct. No changes to the policy text were made at the meeting; staff invited suggestions and will finalize the document as adopted by the board.
The formal motion to adopt was recorded on the agenda as an approval; staff will distribute the final policy to providers and incorporate it into provider agreements going forward.
