Amy, a district administrator who presented the calendar, said the district set out to align calendars regionally and to meet a state statute requiring a minimum of 175 common days so that students attending regional technical centers have consistent schedules. She said, “we are proposing 4 early release days, November, February, April, and May 6,” to provide targeted professional development without shifting to a weekly early‑release model.
The presenter said superintendents in the region worked on the calendar beginning in October to align February and April breaks and the first day of school where possible. Colchester’s calendar will share the statewide February break dates and most districts will share the same first student day; Colchester’s plan places one early‑release day in the fall (November) and three in the second semester.
A board member moved to approve the four early‑release days as presented; the motion passed on a voice vote. The district said it will publish the calendar on its website and notify families and Colchester Parks & Rec so that community programs can plan care on those days. Administrators noted they could revisit the early‑release count if changes to the master agreement or staffing needs arise.
