Parks board approves Music Together provider 'Music with Megan' to offer youth classes

The Milton Parks and Recreation Advisory Board on March 20 approved staff moving forward with a vendor agreement for Music with Megan, a local franchise of the Music Together program run by Megan Kennedy.
The board’s action directs staff to negotiate terms and logistics with Kennedy so she can offer music-and-movement classes for children 0–5 at Milton facilities. Kennedy told the board she plans to be the center director and sole teacher and aims to be “completely set up by June,” offering a shorter summer session and full 12-week sessions in fall and spring.
Board members and staff said the program would add a family-oriented, research-based early-childhood offering to the department’s schedule. Kennedy told the board sessions generally run 8–12 weeks, meet once weekly for 45 minutes, are usually capped at 12 children, and include singing, movement and instrument exploration. She proposed a 9 a.m. class (with an additional 10 a.m. class if demand requires) and suggested locations such as the Milton Community Center and Community Place. Kennedy outlined fees: about $120 for a shorter summer session and $250 for a full 12-week session, with a reduced sibling rate.
Board member Morgan Van Gelder moved to direct staff to pursue an agreement; Stephanie Butler seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board did not set final contract terms at the meeting. Staff will return with a proposed agreement and specific site, schedule and fee details once negotiations are complete. Kennedy said she is completing Music Together teacher training and will register as Music with Megan LLC in April.
Kennedy: “I will be established as Music with Megan LLC, and I will be a Music Together licensed center director and registered Music Together teacher.”
The presentation and vote came during new-business discussion; no public commenters spoke on the vendor item. The board scheduled follow-up through staff to complete contract paperwork and confirm class locations and start dates.
