Peachtree City to consider text amendment to allow cosmetic tattooing, microblading in select zones

Peachtree City staff presented a proposed zoning text amendment Oct. 12 that would permit cosmetic tattooing and microblading — procedures often performed by licensed medical or licensed aesthetic professionals — in certain commercial and light-industrial zoning districts.

The item was brought to staff by the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses requesting the change. “The commercial industry is asking us to consider that as a text amendment,” a planning staff member said. Staff showed proposed definitions and recommended allowing the uses in general commercial, limited-use commercial and light-industrial zones.

Staff emphasized the amendment would not open the city to traditional tattoo parlors. “I just want to make it clear that if we approve this and move forward with it, that doesn't open us up to tattoo parlors,” a council member said. Staff confirmed state licensing covers these services and that practitioners may hold medical or aesthetic licenses depending on the procedure.

Council discussion focused on whether to initiate the text amendment now or wait for missing council members. Staff said the next step — if council initiates — would be to send the amendment to the planning commission and hold public hearings before a final council vote. The council agreed to place initiation on the next regular meeting agenda (the 20th) under new business rather than consent for fuller discussion.

No vote occurred at the work session because a quorum was not present.
