The Senate Local Government and Taxation Committee voted to send House Bill 381 to the Senate floor with a "do pass" recommendation after a brief presentation and no public debate.
Representative Kevin Andrus, R., District 35, told the committee HB 381 clarifies last year’s House Bill 30 by ensuring that the State Tax Commission notifies taxpayers that bank and credit-card statements may be accepted as proof of expenditures in an audit. "This bill is pretty simple," Representative Andrus said, adding the change was intended to make sure "individuals were ... made aware of that opportunity."
There were no questions from committee members after the presentation. Senator Den Hartog moved to send the bill to the floor with a due-pass recommendation; Senator Taylor seconded the motion. The committee approved the motion by voice vote. The chair asked for a volunteer to carry the bill on the floor and Senator Den Hartog volunteered.
The bill’s text and any changes to the notification process will be considered as it proceeds to the floor. No public testimony was recorded on HB 381 during this meeting.
