The Georgia Senate on March 20 adopted House Resolution 42 to ratify Governor Brian Kemp’s executive orders that temporarily suspended collection of motor fuel and diesel fuel taxes in response to hurricane-related disruptions. The suspension took place while the General Assembly was not in session and the resolution formalizes legislative ratification.
Floor leaders said the suspension was part of emergency response and saved an estimated $92 million; the resolution passed on a roll-call vote (53–1). The chamber recorded appreciation for interbranch coordination during the emergency response.
